Post-Sun Skincare – How to Prepare Your Skin for Autumn
When we return from the seaside, we all notice the same phenomenon: the complexion may look nicer, but the skin often begins to peel, feel tight, and itch. The sun, salt, and wind gave us that recognizable “summer glow,” but they also significantly depleted the skin’s natural reserves.
What many people don’t realize is that the skin does not age or dry out instantly – it remembers every exposure to the sun, and problems often appear later, when we return to our daily routine and the first autumn winds begin. This is exactly when the skin’s barrier function becomes compromisedleading to irritation, redness, and even eczema.
What Happens to the Skin After Summer?
To understand what the skin needs, it is important to know what happens to it after prolonged sun exposure:
- Dehydration – Sun radiation dries out the skin, reduces its ability to retain moisture, and damages its natural protective layer.
- Peeling and thickening – The surface layer of the skin sheds faster, while the epidermis simultaneously thickens in an attempt to protect itself.
- Sensitivity – When the skin loses its protective barrier, it becomes more prone to irritation, itching, and eczema.
- Accelerated aging – Sun-induced damage accumulates in skin cells and contributes to wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
In other words, summer leaves us with beautiful memories—but also the task of restoring and preparing the skin for colder weather.
How to Help the Skin Regenerate
During this period, I always advise shifting the focus from “enjoying the sun” to restoring and preserving the skin barrier. Here are several key steps: obnovu i očuvanje kožne barijere. Evo nekoliko ključnih koraka:
- Gentle cleansing – Choose mild shower gels and facial cleansers, without harsh soaps and sulfates. The skin should not be further stripped or dried out.
- Hydration immediately after showering – The skin absorbs best while still slightly damp, so apply a lotion or cream immediately after towel drying.
- Consistent care – I don’t mean layering many products, but maintaining a regular daily routine. The skin responds best to consistency rather than occasional “treatments.”
- The right formula – Products should be fragrance-free and paraben-free, non-irritating, and have proven regenerative effects.
Which Products Do I Recommend for Post-Sun Skincare?

This is the moment when I always emphasize to my patients that they don’t need many different products—only those that are tested, safe, and effective.
Dermobaza – A base cream without parabens and fragrances, with deep hydrating properties that can soothe even the most sensitive skin. I use and recommend it after sun exposure, hair removal, and even for patients with dry or eczema-prone skin. One of the things I like most about Dermobaza is that it can be used both on the face and body, as it does not clog pores.
Panthenol Milk – A true ally in restoring moisture and softness. Panthenol is one of my favorite ingredients because it not only hydrates but also accelerates skin regeneration. Patients often tell me they love it because it absorbs quickly and leaves the skin smooth and soothed. It’s an ideal choice for those who don’t like the heavy feeling of creams but still want rich care. In addition to skincare, panthenol milk is also recommended for hair regeneration after summer exposure.
A Final Reminder
Just like us, the skin regenerates and adapts to new conditions. If we give it what it needs—gentleness, hydration, and safe care—it will reward us with a healthy appearance, softness, and resilience.
Take care of your skin regularly, even when everything seems “fine.” That way, instead of entering autumn with unpleasant dryness and eczema, your skin will remain nourished, soft, and resilient.
